I love my coffee. However, when I brought a coffee purchased from Starbucks into my room on Remembrance Day, my students had some serious questions. Remembrance Day compares to Veterans Day, ANZAC Day and others. Here, we honour our soldiers who fought and died in military conflict around the globe. Now the problem you see, is that the cup had Christmas Designs on it. They asked me about it and that led to a really meaningful discussion. They asked why, if we were supposed to be sad, solemn and reflective on this day, and to take time to think about the sacrifices the soldiers made, did Starbucks give me that cup. A cup, they said, that promoted joy, celebration and happiness.
Following the discussion, the students began a letter writing campaign to voice their opinion to Starbucks. Thank you students, for standing up for what you believe in. Well done.
Letters to Starbucks are just about ready to be sent in. Will update this blog when a response is recieved.

Great to see that you are posting again! We will put the link up to your site now that your back from the holidays! (We're just about to go on our Christmas Break for six weeks!). Would be very interested in a Skype Chat link with your students at some point if you are interested.

We have done some posting this fall. We need permission for students to be nluded in that too, so I am working on that as we move into term 2.
